Named insured

The policy owner(s). This could be any person, firm, or organization that is listed on the insurance policy declarations page as a named insured. The named insured is entitled to the full benefits of the policy, and is the only party authorized to make changes to the policy, file claims, receive funds, cancel the policy, or make other modifications to the policy.

Named perils insurance

An insurance policy which covers only defined perils or causes of loss stated in the contract. Named perils contracts are generally less comprehensive than an All-Risk policy, which covers all perils except those specifically excluded.

National flood insurance program (NFIP)

The program of flood insurance coverage and floodplain management administered under the Act and applicable Federal regulations promulgated in Title 44 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Subchapter B.

Natural and probable consequences

Consequences from a given act that a reasonable person could foresee.

Negligence

Failure to use that degree of care, which an ordinary person of reasonable prudence would use under the given circumstances. Negligence may be constituted by acts either committed or omitted, or both.

Non-owned auto

A vehicle that is used in connection with the insured business that is not owned, leased, hired, rented, or borrowed by the named insured. Most often, these are vehicles your employees own that are used for company business.

Non-renewal

When an insurance company decides to not renew a policy at the end of its policy period.
